Searching inwardly and outwardly as well, I came to see Him, through the Word of the Shabad. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Wherever I turn my eyes, I am learning to notice that the One is right there with me — never somewhere else, always here.

I looked inside myself and I looked out at the world, and it was the same presence in both. The teaching helped me finally see it.

The One is not somewhere else — it is right here, wherever I look.
The deeper layer

This verse says the One is with us wherever we look, inside and out.

Jah daykh-a-u tah naal gur daykhaali-aa: wherever I look, the Guru has shown me that the One is naal, right with me.

Antar baahar bhaal sabad nihaali-aa: I searched antar, inside, and baahar, outside, and through the Sabad, the Word, I saw. The One is not hiding somewhere else. The One is found as always here.

Think of looking all over the house for your glasses while they are sitting on your head. The search ends when someone points and says, "Right there." The Guru is the one who points.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you notice something bigger than yourself in everyday life?
