In plain words

I am so grateful to my Guru, who turned my heart toward the One who is real. That gift is worth everything to me.

When I take in the Guru's word, something lights up inside me. I rest there easily, at home.

Turn your full attention to the sacred word, and something lights up inside.
The deeper layer

I am so thankful to the Guru who turned my heart to the One, and now something lights up inside.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the song. Balihaaree gur apnay vitahu — "I would give myself for my Guru." Balihaaree is a word of deep thanks. It means the gift feels worth everything. Jin saachay si-o liv laa-ee — the Guru joined my heart to the True One.

Sabad cheeneh aatam pargaasi-aa — when the sabad, the Guru's word, is truly taken in, the soul lights up. Think of a dark room when someone flips on the switch. Nothing new was added. You can just finally see.

Sehjay rahi-aa samaa-ee — then the heart rests in sahaj, a natural, easy calm. Thankfulness and inner light come together here.

A Question to Sit With

Who helped turn you toward something good and true? How does that feel?
