Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The true helper serves the Guru and walks in step with the Guru's will.
The true word is true praise. Keep the True One in your mind.
The one who faces the Guru speaks the true word, and pride leaves from inside.
The One is the Giver, and the One's actions are true. The One speaks the true word.
A true helper lives the teaching, and living it is what makes pride fade.
So-ee sayvak jay satgur sayvay — the real sayvak, the one who serves, is the one who serves the true Guru. Chaalai satgur bhaa-ay — they walk in step with the Guru's will. Think of a dance partner who listens to the music and moves with the lead, instead of just talking about dancing.
Sachee banee gurmukh aakhai, ha-umai vichahu jaa-ay — the one who faces the Guru speaks the true banee, the Guru's words, from the heart. Then ha-umai, the "me, me" feeling, leaves from inside.
What makes pride fade is doing, not just saying. And behind all of it is the One. Aapay daataa — the One is the Giver. The One's actions are true, and the One speaks the true word.
What is the difference between talking about doing good and actually doing it?
