In plain words

Wonderful — truly wonderful — are the words of the teaching.

These words rise up from the source like a spring bubbling out of the ground. They flow right back into what is real. They come from Truth and carry you home to it.

Waaho — the sacred word rises from Truth and carries you back into it.
The deeper layer

The Guru's words are so wonderful, they make you say "Wow!"

This is the "Rahao," the pause line at the center of the shabad. Vaahu vaahu pooray gur kee banee: wow, wow, the words of the Perfect Guru! Vaahu is the sound of wonder. It is the same wonder found in Waheguru, a Sikh name for the One.

Pooray gur tay upjee saach samaanee: these words spring up from the Perfect Guru and flow back into Truth.

Think of a spring bubbling out of a hillside, running as a stream, and finally joining the ocean. The Word comes from the Real, and it carries us back to the Real.

A Question to Sit With

What words or music fill you with a wow that lifts you up?
