Looking in the Wrong Place

kaa-i-aa andar aapay vasai alakh na lakhi-aa jaa-ee.
The Lord Himself dwells within the body; He is invisible and cannot be seen.
manmukh mugaDh boojhai naahee baahar bhaalan jaa-ee.
The foolish self-willed manmukh does not understand; he goes out searching for the Lord externally.
satgur sayvay sadaa sukh paa-ay satgur alakh ditaa lakhaa-ee. ||3||
One who serves the True Guru is always at peace; the True Guru has shown me the Invisible Lord. ||3||

In plain words

The One lives right inside me, so quietly and so close that it is easy to miss — like glasses you are hunting for while they sit on your own face.

It is a gentle mix-up to go searching everywhere outside for what is already within. Turn the search inward, and there it is, and with it, peace.

We hunt outside for what is already living quietly within.
The deeper layer

We often look outside for what is already inside us.

Kaa-i-aa andar aapay vasai, alakh na lakhi-aa jaa-ee: the One lives inside the body but is alakh, unseen, and cannot be spotted with the eyes.

Manmukh mugaDh boojhai naahee: the manmukh, the one who follows only their own will, does not understand. They go baahar bhaalan, searching outside.

It is like searching the whole house for your glasses while they sit on your face.

Satgur alakh ditaa lakhaa-ee: the True Guru shows us the Unseen One. The big turnaround is this: stop hunting outside, and look within.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever searched everywhere for something that was right with you all along?
