The Treasure-House You Already Own

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa andar ratan padaarath bhagat bharay bhandaaraa.

is kaa-i-aa andar na-u khand parithmee haat patan baajaaraa.
Within this body are the nine continents of the earth, its markets, cities and streets.

Within this body are the nine treasures of the Naam; contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is obtained. ||4||

In plain words

Inside me there is a whole treasure-house — jewels, riches, and a deep well of love — far more than I ever guessed I was carrying.

A whole busy world lives in here, with everything I could need. And the greatest treasure, the Name, opens up when I hold the sacred word and reflect.

You are already carrying a treasure-house — the key is turning inward.
The deeper layer

You already own a treasure-house, right inside you.

Kaa-i-aa andar ratan padaarath: inside the body are jewels and precious things. Bhagat bharay bhandaaraa: storerooms overflowing with bhagat, loving devotion.

The verse says that inside you are also the nine lands of the earth, with their markets, cities, and streets. A whole busy world lives within.

Naam na-o niDh: the Name is like the nine treasures, meaning every kind of wealth. It is found by gur kai sabad veechaaraa, thinking deeply about the Guru's Word.

Think of a video game where the treasure chest was in your starting room the whole time.

A Question to Sit With

What good things might already be inside you, waiting to be discovered?
