Not by Clever Tricks

gurmukh hovai so kaa-i-aa khojai hor sabh bharam bhulaa-ee.
One who becomes Gurmukh searches this body; all others just wander around in confusion.
jis no day-ay so-ee jan paavai hor ki-aa ko karay chaturaa-ee.
That humble being alone obtains it, unto whom the Lord bestows it. What other clever tricks can anyone try?
kaa-i-aa andar bha-o bhaa-o vasai gur parsaadee paa-ee. ||6||
Within the body, the Fear of God and Love for Him abides; by Guru's Grace, they are obtained. ||6||

In plain words

The one who turns toward the teaching searches in the right place — inward — while so many wander in circles looking everywhere else.

And this treasure is not won by clever tricks or cutting corners. It comes as a gift, received in reverence and love, always here for the taking.

The real treasure comes as a gift received in love — not by clever tricks.
The deeper layer

The treasure comes as a gift, not by clever tricks.

Gurmukh hovai so kaa-i-aa khojai: the gurmukh, the one who turns toward the Guru, searches inside the body. Everyone else wanders around confused.

Jis no day-ay so-ee jan paavai: only the one it is given to receives it. Hor ki-aa ko karay chaturaa-ee: what clever trick could anyone try?

It is like a birthday present. You cannot hack it or grab it. You receive it.

Kaa-i-aa andar bha-o bhaa-o vasai: inside the body live bha-o, loving respect for the One, and bhaa-o, love. Both come by the Guru's kindness.

A Question to Sit With

What good things come only when you stop trying to force them?
