Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 89
Verse 7 of 9

Then Who Is There to Call Bad?

ਸਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਸਭ ਥਾਇ ॥
sabh antarjaamee barahm hai barahm vasai sabh thaa-ay.
God is the Inner-knower of all hearts; God dwells in every place.
ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੬॥
mandaa kis no aakhee-ai sabad vaykhhu liv laa-ay. ||6||
So who should we call evil? Behold the Word of the Shabad, and lovingly dwell upon it. ||6||

In plain words

The One who quietly knows every heart lives in every single place — there's nowhere it isn't.

So if the same Oneness is inside everyone, who is left to point at and call "bad"? When I really look at the world this way, my judging softens into wonder.

If the One is in everyone, judgment softens into wonder.
The deeper layer

If the One lives inside everyone, then who is left to call bad?

Sabh antarjaamee barahm hai — the One is antarjaamee, the One who knows every heart from the inside. Barahm vasai sabh thaa-ay — the One lives in every place.

Then comes the big question. Mandaa kis no aakhee-ai — "So who should we call bad?"

Think of a class where the teacher wrote the same kind message inside every desk. You would stop looking at classmates as "good ones" and "bad ones." You would wonder what is written inside each of them. This line is fair to everyone, of every faith and every kind. Judging softens into wonder.

A Question to Sit With

When is it hardest for you to see the good in someone?
