ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸੋਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗਾਈ ॥੨੩॥
simar simar simar gur apunaa so-i-aa man jaagaa-ee. ||23||
Remembering, remembering, remembering my Guru in meditation, my sleeping mind is awakened. ||23||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Holding the teaching in mind again and again, like returning to a warm thought, something in me starts to stir.
A part of me that had been half-asleep — dull, forgetful — quietly wakes up and pays attention. Remembering is what rouses it.
Returning to what matters, again and again, wakes the sleeping mind.
simar simar simar gur apunaa, so-i-aa man jaagaa-ee — remembering (simran) again and again, the sleeping mind wakes. Repetition here is not empty; it is the tending of attention that rouses the drowsy heart.
A Question to Sit With
What's a good thought you can return to that helps you "wake up" inside?
