Trying Everything, Trusting the Flow

ਅਨੇਕ ਉਪਾਵ ਕਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਈ ॥੨੯॥
anayk upaav karee gur kaaran gur bhaavai so thaa-ay paa-ee. ||29||
I make so many efforts for the sake of the Guru; only that which pleases the Guru is accepted and approved. ||29||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I try in a hundred ways to stay close to the teaching — I really do put in the effort.

But in the end, what truly counts is what's in tune with the flow itself. So I give my best, and let the rest be as it will.

Give your best effort, then trust the flow with the rest.
The deeper layer

anayk upaav karee gur kaaran, gur bhaavai so thaa-ay paa-ee — I make many efforts (upaav), yet only what accords with the flow is accepted. Effort and surrender held together: try wholeheartedly, then trust the current.

A Question to Sit With

When is it wise to keep trying, and when to let go and trust?
