Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are my one true Friend — the wise Maker of everything, who knows me completely.

You brought me together with the teaching, like a good friend making an introduction. And for always, You are where my strength comes from.

The truest friend is the one who's also your source of strength.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan tells the One: You are my one true Friend, and You are where my strength comes from.

Sajan mayraa ayk tooN — "You alone are my sajan, my close friend." Kartaa purakh sujaan — the Creator, who knows everything, and knows me completely.

Satgur meet milaa-i-aa — "You brought me to meet the True Guru, my friend." Think of a good friend who says, "You two should meet," and changes your life.

Mai sadaa sadaa tayraa taan — "Forever and ever, You are my taan, my strength." Think of leaning on a strong wall that will never give way.

A Question to Sit With

Who is a friend who makes you feel stronger just by being there?
