Verse 14 of 15

What Doesn't Come and Go

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
satgur mayraa sadaa sadaa naa aavai naa jaa-ay.
My True Guru, forever and ever, does not come and go.
ਓਹੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੩॥
oh abhinaasee purakh hai sabh meh rahi-aa samaa-ay. ||13||
He is the Imperishable Creator Lord; He is permeating and pervading among all. ||13||

In plain words

The truest teacher isn't here-then-gone like passing things — it's steady, always, never coming or going.

That One never fades, and it lives spread through everyone and everything. It's the one thing I can count on to always be there.

The truest things don't come and go — they're always there.
The deeper layer

Everything around us comes and goes, but the True Guru stays forever.

Satgur mayraa sadaa sadaa — "My True Guru is forever and ever." Naa aavai naa jaa-ay — never comes and never goes.

Think of seasons changing outside your window. Leaves come and go, snow comes and goes. But the ground under the house is always there.

Oh abhinaasee purakh hai — the One is abhinaasee, never fading, never ending. Sabh meh rahi-aa samaa-ay — and lives spread through everyone and everything. It is the steady ground under all the changing things.

A Question to Sit With

What in your life feels steady and always there, no matter what changes?
