An Ocean I Can't Live Without

satgur saagar gun naam kaa mai tis daykhan kaa chaa-o.
The True Guru is the Ocean of Virtue of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. I have such a yearning to see Him!
ha-o tis bin gharhee na jeev-oo bin daykhay mar jaa-o. ||6||
Without Him, I cannot live, even for an instant. If I do not see Him, I die. ||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The teaching is like a whole ocean of goodness and of the Name, and I ache just to look upon it.

Without it, even a moment feels flat and empty. Being near it is as necessary to me as breathing.

Some things become as necessary to you as breathing.
The deeper layer

satgur saagar gun naam kaa, mai tis daykhan kaa chaa-o — the teaching is an ocean (saagar) of virtue, and I yearn (chaa-o) to behold it; bin daykhay mar jaa-o — without it I cannot live. "Cannot live" read as the heart going flat, not literal death.

A Question to Sit With

What's something you'd feel lost without, even for a little while?
