I long for such a Friend, to unite me with my Beloved.

Meeting the True Guru, I have found the Lord. He has met me, easily and effortlessly. ||5||

In plain words

I keep looking for the kind of friend who could bring me close to the One I love.

And when I met the teaching, that's just what happened — I found the One, and it came about easily and naturally, the way things fall into place when they're meant to.

The best friend is the one who brings you closer to what you love.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan looks for a friend who can bring him to the One he loves, and he finds that friend in the Guru.

Ko-ee aisaa sajan lorh lahu — "Find me a sajan, a friend like that." Mai preetam day-ay milaa-ay — "one who can bring me to my Beloved."

Think of a new kid at school who wants to join the chess club, but doesn't know anyone. Then one friend walks them in and introduces them.

Satgur mili-ai har paa-i-aa — "Meeting the True Guru, I found the One." Mili-aa sahj subhaa-ay — it happened in sahaj, with easy, natural calm, with no struggle at all.
