Gurbani Is What Holds Me Up

ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਕਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਵਾ ਮਾਉ ॥
mai satgur saytee pirharhee ki-o gur bin jeevaa maa-o.
I am so much in love with my True Guru! How could I even live without the Guru, O my mother?
ਮੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹਾਉ ॥੮॥
mai gurbaanee aaDhaar hai gurbaanee laag rahaa-o. ||8||
I have the Support of the Word of the Guru's Bani. Attached to Gurbani, I survive. ||8||

In plain words

I'm so in love with the teaching that I can hardly imagine my days without it — it's woven right into how I live.

The words of the teaching are the ground I stand on. Holding onto them, I stay steady, held up even when everything else wobbles.

The words that teach you can become the ground you stand on.
The deeper layer

mai satgur saytee pirharhee, ki-o gur bin jeevaa maa-o — such love for the teaching; how could I live without it? mai gurbaanee aadhaar hai, gurbaanee laag rahaa-o — Gurbani (the sacred Word) is my aadhaar, my support; holding to it, I stand. A landmark statement of Gurbani as the living anchor.

A Question to Sit With

What words or ideas do you return to when you need steadying?
