har har naam ratann hai gur tuthaa dayvai maa-ay.
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is a jewel; by the Pleasure of His Will, the Guru has given it, O my mother.
mai Dhar sachay naam kee har naam rahaa liv laa-ay. ||9||
The True Name is my only Support. I remain lovingly absorbed in the Lord's Name. ||9||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Name is like a priceless jewel, and the teaching hands it to me freely, out of pure kindness.
That true Name is what I lean on now. I stay wrapped up in it, my attention resting there like a boat at anchor.
The most precious things are given freely, not bought.
har har naam ratann hai, gur tuthaa dayvai maa-ay — the Name is a jewel (ratann), given freely when the teaching is pleased; mai dhar sachay naam kee — the true Name is my only support (dhar). A treasure given by grace, not earned.
