O my mind, how can the Unapproachable and Incomprehensible Lord be found? He is the Perfect Transcendent Lord. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

O my mind — how do I ever find the One who is beyond my reach, beyond anything my mind can picture or measure?

It feels impossible. And that honest question — how? — is exactly the door. Asking it sincerely is already the beginning of the answer.

The honest question "how?" is itself the doorway.
The deeper layer

How do you find the One who is beyond your reach?

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. The whole hymn hangs on it. Mayray man agam agochar — O my mind, the One is agam, beyond reach, and agochar, beyond what our senses can take in. Kat paa-ee-ai pooran parmaysar — how can the pooran parmaysar, the perfect One who fills everything, be found?

It is an honest question. Think of a student who puts up a hand and says, "I don't get it. How?" That question is where learning starts. The answer comes quietly, in a second pause line at the very end of the shabad.

A Question to Sit With

Has asking a hard question sincerely ever been the start of finding your answer?
