No Clever Tricks Left

ਕਛੂ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਉਕਤਿ ਨ ਮੋਰੀ ॥
kachhoo si-aanap ukat na moree.
I have no clever tricks or techniques;
ਏਕ ਆਸ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੭॥
ayk aas thaakur parabh toree. ||7||
You are my only hope, O my Lord God Master. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have run out of clever plans and smart moves. I do not have some technique that earns my way close to You.

And that empty-handedness turns out to be a relief. With nothing left to prove, I can finally just lean on You — my one real hope.

When I run out of clever tricks, I can finally just lean.
The deeper layer

I have no clever tricks left. My only hope is You.

Kachhoo si-aanap ukat na moree — I have no si-aanap, cleverness, and no ukat, smart plan. Ayk aas thaakur parabh toree — my one aas, my one hope, is You, God my Master.

This is where the whole shabad turns. Until now, the singer has been struggling alone. Now they stop trying to win by effort, and they start to trust. Think of twisting and twisting a stuck jar lid. Finally, you hand it to someone and say, "Can you help?" That moment of asking is a relief.

A Question to Sit With

When has admitting "I cannot do this alone" actually felt like relief?
