Nanak offers this prayer to the Saints
ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਰਦਾਸੇ ॥੮॥
mayl laihu naanak ardaasay. ||8||
- please let me merge and blend with You. ||8||

In plain words

So I bring my prayer to the ones who already live close to the One — please, help me find my way home too.

There is no shame in asking for help on the path. The people who have walked ahead are exactly the ones who can point the way.

There is no shame in asking the ones who have walked ahead to point the way.
The deeper layer

Nanak asks the wise and good for help to find the way.

Kara-o bayntee santan paasay — I bring my bayntee, my humble request, to the sants. The sants are the wise and good people who live close to the One. Mayl laihu naanak ardaasay — Nanak's ardaas, his prayer, is this: please join me to You.

Remember the question in the pause line: how can the One be found? Here is part of the answer. Look for sangat, good company. Think of learning to ride a bike. Someone who already knows how runs beside you, holding the seat. Asking them is not weak. It is how everyone learns.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people a little further down a good path that you could learn from?
