Raag Sorath
Commentary

Raag Sorath, Du-Padas, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

You do not need cleverness to be safe — only to be a trusting child in loving hands.

The Arc

Pauri 0: I have no cleverness of my own; I am simply a child seeking Your protection, and my honor is safe in Your hands. Rahau (Pauri 1): the One is my mother and my father; every being rests in those same hands, and whatever is meant to be gently comes to be.

Key Vocabulary

  • siaanap kachhoo na aavai: no cleverness of my own
  • ham baarik tau sarnaaee: a child in sanctuary
  • maat pitaa har raaiaa: the One as mother, father, sovereign
  • doree haath tumaare: the reins in Your hands
