Raag Sorath
Commentary

Raag Sorath, Du-Padas, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

Every wish full, an endless music, and the pure story that cannot be spoken is sung.

The Arc

Pauri 0: adoring the perfect teaching, every true wish is filled and an unstruck music plays. Rahau (Pauri 1): remembering the One brings deep ease, and in the home of the good, peace settles on its own. Pauri 2: the teaching's words are dear to the One's own heart, and a humble heart gets to speak the pure story words can never fully hold.

Key Vocabulary

  • sagal manorath poore: all heart-aims fulfilled
  • anhad toore: the unstruck melody
  • sukh sahje: natural ease
  • akath kahaanee: the story that cannot be told

Themes and Cross-Connections

The akath kahaanee paradox — the unspeakable that is nonetheless sung — echoes the cluster's close (as in B00C1306): the deepest things are lived and loved, not fully explained.

For Raag Sorath

Sorath's settled ease suits a shabad that ends in the sung mystery.
