Themes and Cross-Connections

The gift named at the center is sumat — the calm, balanced mind, close kin to sahaj. Sanctuary is again the place of healing, and companionship the antidote to fear.

For Raag Sorath

The raag of grounded homecoming frames a shabad of safe return and being made well.

Translation Notes

The literal invokes the Messenger of Death (jamdoot) and enemies beaten and driven off. Both are softened: fear simply not coming near, and troubles settling — keeping the comfort and the gift of a steady mind while dropping the frightening and combative imagery.
