Raag Sorath
Commentary

Raag Sorath, Du-Padas, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

The easer of pain cuts every burden in a single moment.

The Arc

Pauri 0: the easer of the pains of the humble turns kind, devising every means, and in an instant lifts one free, the teaching cutting away the burden. Rahau (Pauri 1): keep the One always in mind; every heaviness departs, the heart's wishes are met, and in good company the Name makes one radiant.

Key Vocabulary

  • deen dukh bhanjan: easer of the pains of the humble
  • khin meh raakh lee-o: saved in an instant
  • sagal kalays miteh: all afflictions depart
  • saadhsang: the company of the holy

Themes and Cross-Connections

Sudden release — help arriving in a single moment — meets the steadier practice of remembrance in good company (saadhsang). The bonds cut are inner burdens, not literal chains.

For Raag Sorath

Sorath's warmth carries both the swift mercy of release and the settled radiance of good company.
