Raag Sorath
Commentary

Raag Sorath, Du-Padas, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

Real power looks like widespread kindness; the Teacher is with me, and the One is wherever I look.

The Arc

Pauri 0: the perfect Teacher revealed His power, and compassion welled up in every heart; joining me to Himself, He filled all with wellbeing. Rahau (embedded in Pauri 1): the Teacher is always with me; inside, outside, everywhere I look, the One is there — found by great good fortune.

Key Vocabulary

  • kal dhaaree: put forth His power
  • kusal khaym: safety and joy
  • satgur mayrai naal: the Teacher is with me
  • jat kat pekha-o so-ee: wherever I look, He is there

Themes and Cross-Connections

Power expressed as compassion; divine omnipresence offered as reassurance of nearness rather than abstract theology.

For Raag Sorath

The pervasion-vision — the One filling every place — is a recurring Sorath comfort.

Translation Notes

The rahaa-o sits inside Pauri 1 (source prints rahaa-o mid-file), not as a separate opening line.
