Destiny, pre-ordained by the Lord, looms over the heads of all beings; no one is without this pre-ordained destiny.

Only He Himself is beyond destiny; creating the creation by His creative power, He beholds it, and causes His Command to be followed. ||1||

In plain words

Every living being carries a story written into it from the very start; not one is left without its own thread.

Only the One is beyond any such story. It makes this whole creation by its own power, watches over it, and keeps the great flow moving.

Every life is woven into its own story, and one great flow holds them all in view.
The deeper layer

This one says every life has its own story, and one Power holds them all. Sarab jee-aa sir laykh Dhuraahoo — every being carries a writing from the Source. Laykh means "what is written." Here it is the pattern each life is woven into. Think of it as a story written into each of us, not a harsh fate. Bin laykhai nahee ko-ee — no one is left without one.

Only the One is alaykh, beyond any writing, with no script at all. Kudrat kar daykhai — the One makes creation by its own power and watches over it with love. Kudrat means creation, the whole natural world. Hukam chalaa-ay — and the One keeps it all moving. Hukam is often called a command. But it is less like orders shouted from above and more like the way life actually flows. Picture a river. Every drop has its own path, and one current carries them all.

A Question to Sit With

What is a part of your story you didn't choose — and how do you feel about it now?
