Verse 3 of 5

Drawn Toward What We Love

ਜਿਉ ਕਾਮੀ ਕਾਮਿ ਲੁਭਾਵੈ ॥
ji-o kaamee kaam lubhaavai.
Just as the lustful man is enticed by lust,
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
ti-o har daas har jas bhaavai. ||2||
so is the Lord's slave pleased with the Lord's Praise. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Just as a person is pulled strongly toward whatever they deeply long for, a loving heart is drawn to the One's praise.

That pull is not a burden; it is the heart following what it loves.

What you love pulls you toward it — so it matters what you learn to love.
The deeper layer

jiu kaamee kaam lubhaavai — as one is drawn by strong craving; here rendered as being drawn to what one longs for, keeping it age-appropriate. tiu har daas har jas bhaavai — so praise delights the devotee.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you love so much you feel pulled toward it?
