Chasing What Can't Come Along

mukat panth jaani-o tai naahan Dhan joran ka-o Dhaa-i-aa.
You do not know the way to liberation, but you run all around chasing wealth.
ant sang kaahoo nahee deenaa birthaa aap banDhaa-i-aa. ||1||
In the end, nothing shall go along with you; you have entrapped yourself in vain. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

It's easy to run and run after money and things, without knowing the way to real freedom.

But none of it comes along in the end — so it's worth loosening our grip and not tangling ourselves up.

What you can't take with you isn't worth tangling yourself up for.
The deeper layer

mukat panth jaanio tai naahan — not knowing the path of freedom; dhan joran ka-o dhaaiaa — running to gather wealth; ant sang kaahoo nahee — nothing accompanies at the end. Non-attachment framed as loosening the grip.

A Question to Sit With

What matters more to you than money and things?
