O mind, you have not accepted the Guru's Teachings.

What is the use of shaving your head, and wearing saffron robes? ||1||Pause||

In plain words

O my mind, the teaching is right here waiting, have I truly let it in?

If I only change the outside, a new look, special clothes, a holy costume, but leave the inside untouched, what have I really changed?

The real turning happens quietly, within.

Changing your outside is easy; the real change is inside.
The deeper layer

gahio na gur updays — the teaching not grasped; mood mudaaio bhagvao keeno bhays — shaving the head, donning saffron robes. The outward marks of a renunciate are named to make a point that cuts across every tradition: an outer costume is not the inner change. The critique targets empty formalism wherever it appears, not the sincere seeker. This is the Rahau.

A Question to Sit With

What is one small inner change that matters more than how things look?
