The world is entangled in its own pleasures; no one is for anyone else. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

O dear friend, hold this quietly in your mind.

So much of the world is wrapped up in chasing its own comforts, each person busy with their own good time.

Knowing this is not sad, it is clear-eyed. It helps you find the love that is actually for you.

Seeing clearly how the world works helps you find the love that truly lasts.
The deeper layer

preetam jaan layho man maahee — dear one, understand this within; apnay sukh si-o hee jag faaNDhio — the world is snared by its own pleasure; ko kaahoo ko naahee — no one ultimately belongs to another. The Rahau of the closing Mehl 9 shabad. Not cynicism but clarity: seeing the conditional nature of worldly attachment so the heart can rest in the One that is unconditional.

A Question to Sit With

What is the difference between someone who is around for fun and someone who is truly there for you?
