No Other Door — Home Found Within the Home

Sorat'h, First Mehl, First House, Ashtapadees, Chau-Tukas:

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

I am not torn by duality, because I do not worship any other than the Lord; I do not visit tombs or crematoriums.

I do not enter the houses of strangers, engrossed in desire. The Naam, the Name of the Lord, has satisfied my desires.

Deep within my heart, the Guru has shown me the home of my being, and my mind is imbued with peace and poise, O Siblings of Destiny.

You Yourself are all-knowing, and You Yourself are all-seeing; You alone bestow intelligence, O Lord. ||1||

In plain words

My heart is not split in two anymore, torn between this and that, because I have stopped looking for the One in a hundred faraway places.

The living presence of the Name has quieted my endless wanting. And the strangest, best surprise? Home was inside me all along, I just needed help to see the door.

You know everything, You see everything, and any real understanding I have is a gift from You.

You do not have to travel to find the One; the door is already inside you.
The deeper layer

dubiDhaa na parhao — not caught in duality; marhai masaan na jaa-ee — not chasing the sacred at tombs and cremation grounds; ghar bheetar ghar guroo dikhaaiaa — the Guru revealed the 'home within the home,' the divine already dwelling inside. A chau-tuka (four-line stanza). The ashtapadee opens by relocating the search: not outward to holy sites but inward. sahj ratay — dyed in natural ease. The mention of tombs and crematoriums is not a slur on any practice; it points past external religion to inner realization.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel most at home inside yourself?
