Dear One, Your gaze of grace is true. Show kindness to Your own, beloved One, and keep our honor safe.
Praising the deep song, I truly live; through the teaching my fear has run off. My One is true and so beautiful — serving the teaching, my attention rests on it. Steeped in the true word and the true song, such a person stays awake and aware, day and night.
The rahaao: saachee nadar tumaaree — "Your Glance of Grace is true" — and raakho paij hamaaree, "keep our honor." A trusting plea, not a fearful one. The living line: sabad salaahee sadaa ha-o jeevaa — "praising the deep song, I truly live." Praise is life itself. Bha-o bhaagaa — fear runs off — through the teaching. And a lovely, human touch: mayraa prabh saachaa at su-aali-o — "my One is true and so beautiful." Guru Amar Das lets delight and beauty into the devotion; it isn't solemn duty but glad love.
What is something that makes you feel most alive when you're doing it?
