Verse 8 of 8

Their Honor Echoes Through Every Age

jin har man vasi-aa say dar saachay dar saachai sachi-aaraa.
Those whose minds are filled with the Lord are judged as true in the Court of the Lord; they are hailed as true in the True Court.
Their praises echo throughout the ages, and no one can erase them.
naanak tin kai sad balihaarai jin har raakhi-aa ur Dhaaraa. ||8||1||
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who enshrine the Lord within their hearts. ||8||1||

In plain words

The hearts that are full of the One ring true wherever they go, and are welcomed as true in the truest place of all.

Their goodness echoes on and on, age after age, nothing can rub it out.

I bow with my whole heart to people like that, who keep the One tucked safe inside them.

Goodness held deep in the heart echoes on and on; nothing can erase it.
The deeper layer

This verse, which closes the shabad, says goodness held in the heart lasts forever.

Jin har man vasi-aa say dar saachay: people whose minds are full of the One are welcomed as true at the One's door.

Onaa dee sobhaa jug jug ho-ee: their good name echoes through every age. Ko-ay na maytanhaaraa: no one can rub it out.

Think of a kind grandparent. Years later, the family still tells stories about their gentleness. Nobody has to keep a trophy for it. It just stays alive in people's hearts.

Naanak tin kai sad balihaarai: Guru Amar Das, speaking as Nanak, says he would give himself wholly to such people. He bows with his whole heart to those who keep the One safe inside.

A Question to Sit With

Whose goodness do you hope people still remember long from now?
