The Perfect Guide Blends Us Right In

har jee-o aapay bakhas milaa-ay.
The Dear Lord forgives, and unites with Himself.
gunheen ham apraaDhee bhaa-ee poorai satgur la-ay ralaa-ay. rahaa-o.
I am a sinner, totally without virtue, O Siblings of Destiny; the Perfect True Guru has blended me. ||Pause||
ka-un ka-un apraaDhee bakhsi-an pi-aaray saachai sabad veechaar.
So many, so many sinners have been forgiven, O beloved one, by contemplating the True Word of the Shabad.
bha-ojal paar utaari-an bhaa-ee satgur bayrhai chaarh. ||2||
They got on board the boat of the True Guru, who carried them across the terrifying world-ocean, O Siblings of Destiny. ||2||

In plain words

The Dear One forgives, then draws me close and folds me right into the whole.

I do not come with a pile of good deeds, but the Perfect Guide blends me in anyway, like I belong.

So many hearts have been welcomed this way, just by taking the true Word in. They climbed aboard the guide's sturdy boat, and it carried them safely across the wide, rough sea of life.

You do not earn your way in; the Perfect Guide folds you into the whole.
The deeper layer

har jee-o aapay bakhas milaa-ay — the Dear One forgives and unites: the Rahau. gunheen ham apraaDhee... poorai satgur la-ay ralaa-ay — the virtueless one blended in by the Perfect Guru, rendered as belonging by grace, not self-condemnation. bhaojal paar utaarian... berhai chaarh — carried across the bhaojal (world-ocean) on the Guru's boat; 'terrifying' softened to 'wide, rough.' Forgiveness and belonging.

A Question to Sit With

When has someone made you feel like you truly belonged?
