What promised delight turns bitter, and sadness grows from it.
Chasing one pleasure after another, the ache of feeling far from the One never really lifts.
But a heart that meets the teaching is set right — this was waiting for it all along.
This one says some sweet things turn sour, and only the One fills the ache.
Mithaa kar kai khaa-i-aa — we eat something because it tastes sweet. Then tin tan keetaa rog, it makes the body sick. Think of a whole bag of candy at a sleepover. It's great for ten minutes, and then your stomach hurts. Ka-urhaa ho-ay — what was sweet turns bitter. Fun that lasts only a moment is like that. It isn't the real thing.
While we chase one treat after another, utrai nahee vijog. Vijog is the ache of feeling far from the One, and it doesn't go away.
The last line turns hopeful. Dhuray pa-i-aa sanjog — the meeting with the Teacher was set from the start. It was waiting for us all along.
