No Cleverness Travels With You

One may have thousands of clever tricks and techniques of austere self-discipline, O Beloved, but not even one of them will go with him.

Those who turn their backs on the Lord of the Universe, O Beloved, their families are stained with disgrace.
hodee vasat na jaatee-aa pi-aaray koorh na chalee naal.
They do not realize that they do have Him , O Beloved; falsehood will not go with them.

Those who meet with the True Guru, O Beloved, dwell upon the True Name. ||6||

In plain words

You could master a thousand clever techniques and strict disciplines — and not one of them travels with you in the end.

Turning away from the One leaves a heart hollow, and that emptiness touches those around it too.

Whatever is unreal simply won’t last or follow you.

But those who meet the teaching hold the True Name close — and that stays.

Cleverness and technique don’t travel with you — only what’s real does.
The deeper layer

This one says no trick or skill goes with you in the end. Only the True Name does.

Sanjam sahas si-aanpaa — a thousand clever methods and strict rules for yourself. Ik na chalee naal — not one of them goes along with you. It's like cramming answers the night before a test. A week later the tricks are gone. What you truly understood stays.

This is not aimed at any one group. It is about practice done without love, on any path.

Tin kul laagai gaal — turning away from the One touches the whole family too. Emptiness in one heart spreads to those nearby. And koorh na chalee naal: koorh, the false and unreal, never lasts. Only the True Name, what is real, stays.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that will still matter to you many years from now?
