Grace Fills the Heart With Nectar

sat santokh gi-aan Dhi-aan pi-aaray jis no nadar karay.
When the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, O Beloved, one is blessed with Truth, contentment, wisdom and meditation.
an-din keertan gun ravai pi-aaray amrit poor bharay.
Night and day, he sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, O Beloved, totally filled with Ambrosial Nectar.
dukh saagar tin langhi-aa pi-aaray bhavjal paar paray.
He crosses over the sea of pain, O Beloved, and swims across the terrifying world-ocean.
jis bhaavai tis mayl laihi pi-aaray say-ee sadaa kharay. ||7||
One who is pleasing to His Will, He unites with Himself, O Beloved; he is forever true. ||7||

In plain words

When grace touches a heart, it fills with truth, contentment, clear seeing, and quiet attention.

Day and night it sings the One’s praises, brimming with a sweetness like nectar.

It crosses right over the sea of sorrow and reaches the far shore.

Whoever the One draws close is joined to it, and becomes real and true forever.

Grace fills the heart with truth, contentment, and sweetness.
The deeper layer

This one says that when grace looks at you, four gifts arrive together.

Sat santokh gi-aan Dhi-aan — truth, contentment, wisdom and quiet attention. They come jis no nadar karay, to the one the One looks at with nadar, a kind glance of grace. Think of a coach's nod that suddenly makes you brave.

Then the heart sings day and night, amrit poor bharay, filled to the brim with amrit, sweet nectar. It crosses the dukh saagar, the sea of sorrow, and the bhavjal, the wide ocean of the world. It lands safe on the far shore.

Say-ee sadaa kharay — such people become real and true forever. Kharay is like pure gold, genuine all the way through.

A Question to Sit With

What fills you up in a way that lasts, not just for a moment?
