Even the Most Lost Can Be Turned Around

pa-orhee.
Pauree:
jinaa gur gopi-aa aapnaa tay nar buri-aaree.
Those who conceal and deny their Guru, are the most evil people.
har jee-o tin kaa darsan naa karahu paapisat hati-aaree.
O Dear Lord, let me not even see them; they are the worst sinners and murderers.
ohi ghar ghar fireh kusuDh man ji-o Dharkat naaree.
They wander from house to house, with impure minds, like wicked, forsaken women.
vadbhaagee sangat milay gurmukh savaaree.
But by great good fortune, they may meet the Company of the Holy; as Gurmukhs, they are reformed.
har maylhu satgur da-i-aa kar gur ka-o balihaaree. ||23||
O Lord, please be kind and let me meet the True Guru; I am a sacrifice to the Guru. ||23||

In plain words

When people turn their backs on their own Guru, they end up hurting mostly themselves, wandering without a center.

A heart like that roams from house to house, unsettled and never at rest, never quite feeling at home anywhere.

And yet, by great good fortune, even the most lost person can meet the Sangat, turn toward the Guru, and be gently set right.

So I pray: be kind to me, and lead me to the True Guru. I would give anything for the Guru.

Turning away from your Guru leaves you wandering — and the Sangat can turn even the most lost heart around.
The deeper layer

Jinaa gur gopi-aa aapnaa — those who hide and deny their own Guru. Turning away from your guidance leaves you rootless and restless, wandering ghar ghar, from house to house. Then comes the turn: vadbhaagee sangat milay... savaaree — by great good fortune they meet the Sangat and are set right. Nobody is written off. The close is a longing prayer: har maylhu satgur — lead me to the True Guru.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt lost or unsure, and then a kind, wise person helped you find your footing again? What did they do that helped?
