When someone carries confusion inside and never quite trusts a wise guide, their thinking grows dull and cloudy.
And here is a strange thing: a person who is being tricky and dishonest inside starts to suspect everyone else of being tricky too. The deceit they carry wears them out.
The teacher's gentle way never quite gets through, so they keep chasing only what serves themselves.
But the moment grace touches them, everything changes, and they sink peacefully into the Word.
This Shalok names a piercingly true psychological law: andar kapat sabh kapto kar jaanai — "the one with deceit inside sees deception in everyone." We project our own inner condition onto the world. The teaching treats this as a disease to heal, not a sin to punish — kaptay khapeh khapaahee is softened from "totally ruined" to wearing oneself out. And the door stays open: kirpaa karay jay aapnee — one touch of grace and the whole pattern dissolves. Grace is received, not earned.
Have you noticed that when you're in a grumpy mood, everyone else seems grumpy too? What might that tell you about how your inside shapes what you see?
