Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One itself makes us, watches over us, and sets us on the path — there is simply no one else.
Whatever is truly meant to be, no one can rub out — what the Creator does, comes to pass.
Nanak says: the Name lives deep inside the mind — and there is no other at all.
The close is deep rest in hukam. Aapay kar vaykhai maarag laa-ay — "the One makes us, watches over us, sets us on the path." Jo dhur likhi-aa so ko-ay na maytai — "what is written from the source, none can erase" — kept here as "what is truly meant to be," the flow of existence, not grim fate: there is a settledness in trusting that a caring One holds the pattern. The refrain avar na doojaa ko-ee — "there is no other at all" — closes each of the last lines, a heartbeat of Ik Onkar. The shabad ends where it is safest: the Name inside, the One holding all.
When have you felt watched-over or held, even during something hard?
