In plain words

Time touches the whole world, even the clever ones who are all tangled up in doubt.

But Kabir says the humble people who truly know loving devotion become pure and free, clear all the way through, like the purest, most whole-hearted among us.

Loving devotion, not cleverness, is what makes a person pure and free.
The deeper layer

This one says: people who know loving devotion become pure and free.

Kabir looks around and sees that time touches the whole world. Even the bharam gi-aanee are caught. These are clever people still tangled up in doubt. He names them without scorn. They are not enemies, just people still caught in a knot.

Then comes the bright line: jan bha-ay khaalsay. The humble become khaalsay, pure, free and clear. This is one of the earliest times the word Khalsa appears. Here it means washed clean and set free, like a window wiped until the light comes straight through.

Who becomes like that? Paraym bhagat jih jaanee: those who know loving devotion.

A Question to Sit With

What do you think it means to be 'clear all the way through,' with nothing pretended?
