Verse 4 of 4

Now That I Know, My Mind Is Still

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
kahi kabeer ab jaani-aa.
Says Kabir, now I know Him;
ਜਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
jab jaani-aa ta-o man maani-aa.
since I know Him, my mind is pleased and appeased.
ਮਨ ਮਾਨੇ ਲੋਗੁ ਨ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥
man maanay log na pateejai.
My mind is pleased and appeased, and yet, people do not believe it.
ਨ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਤਉ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੩॥੭॥
na pateejai ta-o ki-aa keejai. ||3||7||
They do not believe it, so what can I do? ||3||7||

In plain words

Kabir says: now I truly know the One, and knowing it, my mind has finally grown quiet and content.

My heart is at peace, even if others cannot see it or believe it. And if they do not, well, that is alright, I cannot make them feel what I have found. I just keep resting in it.

Real inner peace does not need anyone else's agreement to be real.
The deeper layer

This one says real inner peace does not need anyone else's agreement to be real.

Kahi kabeer ab jaani-aa: "Kabir says, now I know Him." Then comes man maani-aa, my mind is content and at rest. This is like Mannai in Japji. It means trusting from the inside, not just agreeing with an idea.

Log na pateejai: people do not believe it. Kabir stays calm about that. Think of loving a song that your friends find boring. It still makes you happy. You don't need their vote.

Ta-o ki-aa keejai: "so what can I do?" Kabir just rests in what he has found. His peace does not depend on anyone else's approval.

A Question to Sit With

Can something be deeply true for you even if you cannot get anyone else to see it?
