Carry Me Across, O Healer of the Heart

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
kahi kabeer beechaaree.
Says Kabir after deep contemplation,
ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਾਰਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੩॥੮॥
bhav saagar taar muraaree. ||3||8||
please help me cross over the terrifying world-ocean, O Lord, O Destroyer of ego. ||3||8||

In plain words

Kabir says, after thinking it through deeply and honestly:

O One who melts away pride and heals the heart! Please carry me gently across this wide sea of life, all the way home.

The One who heals the heart can carry us across when we cannot cross alone.
The deeper layer

This one is Kabir's prayer after thinking long and hard.

Kahi kabeer beechaaree: Kabir says this after deep thought. Then comes the prayer: bhav saagar taar muraaree. Bhav saagar means the ocean of the world, the wide sea of life with all its ups and downs. Taar means carry across.

Muraaree is a name for the One. It means the One who melts away pride. In old stories, Mur was a demon, and pride is like that demon inside us.

Think of a kid learning to swim across a big pool. They are not scared, because a parent's hand is under them the whole way. This prayer sounds like that. It is full of trust, not fear.

A Question to Sit With

When something feels too big to handle alone, what does it mean to simply ask for help?
