Verse 4 of 4

No One Is Truly Yours but the One

ਕਹਤੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
kahat kabeer ko-ee nahee tayraa.
Says Kabir, no one belongs to you.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਕੀ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੩॥੯॥
hirdai raam kee na jaapeh savayraa. ||3||9||
Why not chant the Lord's Name in your heart, when you are still young? ||3||9||

In plain words

Kabir says, gently: in the very deepest sense, nothing and no one belongs to you the way you think.

So why not hold the One close in your heart right now, early, while you are young and your days are full of morning?

Nothing is truly ours to keep, so hold the One close now, in the freshness of your days.
The deeper layer

This one says nothing and no one is truly "yours," so hold the One close, and start early.

Ko-ee nahee tayraa — no one belongs to you. That sounds sad at first, but it is freeing. Think of holding sand. Squeeze tight and it runs out. Hold it gently and it stays. Loosening our grip lets us love people without clinging.

Then Kabir asks, hirdai raam kee na jaapeh savayraa? Why not keep the One in your heart savayraa? Savayraa means morning. So it means early in the day, and early in life, while your days are fresh.

This is an invitation, not a warning. Morning is the best time to begin.

A Question to Sit With

What is something good you could start now rather than putting off until 'someday'?
