Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The whole world gets tangled in “me” and “mine,” even though nothing truly belongs to anyone.
When I sing from the heart, I find a home that was inside me all along — I don't have to travel anywhere to reach it.
Whoever understands this right here, in this life, discovers who they really are. And the One becomes theirs.
This one says nothing is truly "mine," and your real home is already inside you.
Ha-o mayraa jag palach rahi-aa — the world is tangled in "I" and "mine." That is haumai, the feeling of being a separate, grabbing self. But ko-ay na kis hee kayraa: no one truly belongs to anyone. Think of two kids fighting over a library book. Neither of them owns it.
Nij ghar ho-ay basayraa — they live in the home of their own inner self. The place we're looking for is inside, not at the end of a long trip. Guru Amar Das loves this idea: you can find it right at home, in everyday family life.
Aithai boojhai so aap pachhaanai — whoever understands this here, in this life, knows who they really are. And then the One becomes their own.
What's something you thought you had to go far to find, that was near you all along?
