Sikhism·Raag Sorath·Shabad 172
Verse 3 of 3

Wherever I Look, I See the One

ਰਸਨਾ ਰਮਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਾ ਚਿਤ ਚੇਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
rasnaa ramat sunat sukh sarvanaa chit chaytay sukh ho-ee.
The tongue speaks, the ears listen, and the mind contemplates the Lord; they find peace and comfort.
ਕਹੁ ਭੀਖਨ ਦੁਇ ਨੈਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾਂ ਤਹ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥੨॥
kaho bheekhan du-ay nain santokhay jah daykhaaN tah so-ee. ||2||2||
Says Bheekhan, my eyes are content; wherever I look, there I see the Lord. ||2||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The tongue speaks the Name, the ears drink it in, the mind rests upon it, and everywhere peace comes flooding.

Says Bhikhan, my eyes are content at last, for now, wherever I look, there I see the One.

When the heart is at peace, you begin to see the One everywhere you look.
The deeper layer

The raag closes in fulfillment. Speaking, hearing, and remembering the Name bring sukh (peace) to every faculty, and the eyes come to rest in seeing the One everywhere, jah daykhaan tah soee. It is a serene ending for Raag Sorath: the Divine no longer sought at a distance but recognized in all things.

A Question to Sit With

What would change if you looked for the good, the One, in everything around you?
