Beneath the Three Restless Moods, a Still Fourth Center

man ray tarai gun chhod cha-uthai chit laa-ay.
O mind, renounce the three qualities, and focus your consciousness on the fourth state.
har jee-o tayrai man vasai bhaa-ee sadaa har kay gun gaa-ay. rahaa-o.
The Dear Lord abides in the mind, O Siblings of Destiny; ever sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||Pause||
naamai tay sabh oopjay bhaa-ee naa-ay visri-ai mar jaa-ay.
From the Naam, everyone originated, O Siblings of Destiny; forgetting the Naam, they die away.
agi-aanee jagat anDh hai bhaa-ee sootay ga-ay muhaa-ay. ||2||
The ignorant world is blind, O Siblings of Destiny; those who sleep are plundered. ||2||

In plain words

O my mind, step out of the three pulls and rest your attention on the fourth — the still, quiet center underneath them all.

The One already lives in you; keep singing and you will feel it.

Everything springs from the Name; when we forget it, we drift off to sleep and let our treasure slip away — so it's worth staying awake.

Underneath your three restless moods is a still fourth center — rest your attention there.
The deeper layer

The Rahau names the goal: cha-uthaa pad, the “fourth state” (turiya) — the still awareness beneath waking, dreaming, and deep sleep, underneath the three restless pulls. The literal's “those who sleep are plundered” is read as a wake-up call, not a threat: inattention simply lets your real treasure slip away while you doze. And naamai tay sabh oopjay — everything springs from the Name — grounds it all in one Source.

A Question to Sit With

Where is the calm, quiet place inside you that your moods can't reach?
