The Teaching Opens Your Eyes and the Real Is Right at Home

ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਸਭੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

This world is blind, and all act blindly; without the Guru, no one finds the Path.

O Nanak, meeting with the True Guru, one sees with his eyes, and finds the True Lord within the home of his own being. ||4||10||

In plain words

Without the teaching, it's easy to stumble along in the dark, not quite seeing where we're going.

But the moment the teaching meets me, my eyes open — and I find what's most real right here, inside my own home.

The moment the teaching meets you, your eyes open — and what's most real is right here at home.
The deeper layer

This one says the teaching opens your eyes, and what is most real is right at home.

The verse calls the world andhaa, blind. Read it as being in the dark, with eyes not open yet. It is not an insult to anyone. Bin gur mag na paa-ay: without a guide, it is easy to miss the path.

Then something changes. Akhee vaykhai: "one sees with one's own eyes." That means seeing for yourself, not just hearing about it. It is the difference between reading about the ocean and standing with your feet in the waves.

And what do you see? Gharai andar sach, the True One inside your own home. This is a note for people living ordinary family lives. No long journey is needed. What is most real is already indoors.

A Question to Sit With

What's something true that was right in front of you, once you finally saw it?
