Nanak has found the immeasurable, celestial peace; night and day, he remains awake to the Lord, the Master of the Forest of the Universe. ||4||7||

In plain words

Touched by grace, we meet the One and find the teaching.

Then a boundless, easy peace opens up, and day and night the heart stays gently awake to the One.

A boundless, easy peace opens up, and the heart stays gently awake to the One.
The deeper layer

This one is about a peace so big it can't be measured. Those touched by grace meet the One and find the Guru. And Nanak finds atul sahj sukh. Atul means beyond measure. Sahj, or sahaj, means natural and easy, with no strain. Sukh means peace. Put together, it is a boundless, easy peace.

Then comes an-din jaagat rahai banvaaree. Night and day, the heart stays awake to the One, the Keeper of the whole forest of the world. Gurbani often talks about being asleep and being awake. Here, awake means awake inside. It is like a parent who still hears a baby's softest sound, even while resting. There is no straining. It is just staying gently present to the One through ordinary days and nights.

A Question to Sit With

What does it mean to you to stay “awake” to what matters, even on ordinary days?
