The Fearless, Formless Lord, the Destroyer of Fear bestows all comforts, and the nine treasures. ||1||

In plain words

Who else would I ask? Who else would I turn to, when everything and everyone was made by the One?

Even the greatest and grandest people all return, in time, to the dust — nothing here lasts forever.

So I lean on the Fearless, Formless Oneness, the one who melts away fear and pours out every comfort and treasure.

When you feel small, you can lean on the One that made everything and outlasts everything.
The deeper layer

This shabad opens a new set and carries its own Ik Onkar header. Guru Arjan asks the oldest question — where do I place my trust? — and answers it by clearing away every smaller answer. Rulers, celebrities, the 'greatest of the great' all pass. What remains is nirbha-o nirankaar, the fearless formless One (an echo of the Mool Mantar), described as bhav-khandan, the breaker of fear. The 'nine treasures' is an old image for total abundance: you do not need to beg from anyone when the Source itself is generous.

A Question to Sit With

When something worries you, who or what do you usually turn to first?
