Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When I look around, I see nothing else worth praising the way I praise the One — there is simply nothing equal to it.
Nanak prays, glad to serve even the servants of the One: through the teaching, that is how I came to know it.
This one ends the shabad with quiet certainty: there is only One to praise.
Avar na deesai kis saalaahee — I see no other, so whom else would I praise? Tiseh sareek na ko-ee — no one is equal to the One. This isn't looking down on anyone. It comes from Ik Onkar, the truth that all is One. If there is only one reality, there is only One to praise.
Then Guru Nanak calls himself daasan daasaa, a servant of servants. That sounds low, but it is freeing. The less you need to be the boss, the lighter you feel. Think of the kid who happily fills water bottles for the whole team. No pride weighs on them.
Gurmat jaani-aa so-ee — through the Guru's teaching, I came to know the One. It isn't cleverness. It is a gift received.
What is one thing you admire so much it feels bigger than everyday admiration?
